Q & A with Ann

Why do you do what you do?

After spending all of my life in the corporate business world, I made a switch to working directly with people.  I am a great listener, I enjoy being with people and pets.  I am most fulfilled when I am helping, teaching and guiding others.  It puts a smile on my face!

Why organizing?

I know that it’s going to help people to function more efficiently. A big satisfaction for me is to help a client convert a function or space that doesn’t work for them.  When I complete an organizing project, my goal is for the client to enjoy the new functionality and see the joy in their eyes.

What do you find most rewarding about caregiving?

To begin with, my mother was very independent and overnight she needed care--from full time nursing to health care aides. The interaction and care of the nursing and companion staff around her, gave her a reason to want to continue living, even though she had some medical issues. My family and I were so grateful for this care. I want to give others the level of comfort we experienced.

Simply put, I feel a particular affinity with my senior clients. I am an important part of their day--a hug, a smile, a chat over tea and making their everyday tasks easier—just warms my heart.

Tell me more what you do as a Kitchen Assist.

I have always loved cooking along with my zest for teaching people.  I have a lot of fun in the kitchen.  When I am working with a family/group, it’s just not work! Even when I am doing dishes or cleanup tasks, food excites me and being in the kitchen brings me happiness.

What led you into the Pet and Housesitting service?

It began with my friends asking me to look after their family pets while they were out of town. I have a grand-dog and love animals, so this was easy for me. I began to realize the relief that my friends had in knowing their animals and home were not only looked after but loved. An added security benefit to my friends, was that their home was being occupied or visited during their absence. Providing them with worry-free time away!

And what are some other fun facts about you?

I am Boston-born and raised (you will probably detect an accent when we speak!)  I studied and trained in the corporate world doing project management, quality assurance for software testing and project administration.  I worked for one company for 35 years until I became an entrepreneur!

I enjoy crafts, including sewing and making greeting cards.  My sewing accomplishments vary from home projects to prom dresses.  I have always loved hosting people in my home - making new appetizers, meals and desserts along with a glass of wine!  My love of cooking often leads to impromptu gatherings for friends and family to try out a new recipe.  I have three grown children—two daughters and a son, and a sweet grandson.  I have many long-time friends on both east and west coasts.  Being with people is what makes me happy!

Lastly, a little unknown fact about me.

I used to be a jelly donut filler at Dunkin’ Donuts!
